Gunmen Kidnap Channels TV Reporter in Owerri, Imo State, Demand N15m Ransom

A Channels TV reporter in Owerri, Temitope Kutiyi has been abducted from the Imo State capital. He was taken from his house around Federal Housing Estate, Egbeada yesterday, according to an eyewitness who told Daily Trust that the suspected kidnappers numbering eight broke into his house through the iron door and bundled him away to an unknown destination.

The suspected kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N15 million before he would be released.

Temitope’s close friend and Galaxy TV correspondent in Owerri, Nnamdi Ofonye said that he was immediately contacted by the suspects over his abduction and for the ransom, and that the security agencies had been alerted of the incident.

Reacting to the incident, Governor Rochas Okorocha said that those behind it wanted to blackmail the state government which had been fighting to reduce kidnapping.

The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Enwerem confirmed the incident, saying that the state Police Command had commenced efforts to rescue the journalist and apprehend the culprits.
